The Broad Street Bank Building is an important example of early 20th
century, modern skyscrapers. The building represents a specific type
of structure, designed not only to facilitate commercial activity, but
also to become a symbol of elegance and enhance the city’s already
rich historic fabric. The building is the downtown*s only example of
French Renaissance architecture applied to a skyscraper. In both
design and workmanship, the Broad Street Bank Building is indicative
of the high quality of early 20th century architecture built during
the city*s infancy. The architectural style of the building reflects a
conscious effort on the part of the architect and the Board of the
Broad Street Bank to integrate a distinguished, unique type of modern
building into an existing community. The Broad Street Bank Building is
being nominated to the National Register of Historic Places under
Criterion A for Social and Local Trenton History, Criterion C for
Architecture and distinctive characteristics of a type and period, and
Criterion D for local Trenton History. The building is place between
two historic districts, Mill Hill District and
the Battle of Trenton War Memorial and Barracks.
